In this fun, colourful video, Lene plays the role of Barbie, while René stars as Ken. He invites her to a party, but it's hard to convince her because she rather likes to spend time skating, listening to music, swimming, kissing her horse or just fooling around.
After riding the car, they finally arrive to the party (which ironically takes place at Barbie's own house). Søren and Claus are the orchestra men. Two friends of Barbie and Ken arrive. René accidentally takes out Lene's plastic arm, but she eventually forgives him and the arm can be replaced. Barbie & Ken end kissing.
Facts:
It was Aqua's second video, as My Oh My didn't have one until its 1998 re-release.
Aqua were already famous, so this video had a much bigger budget than Roses Are Red (which they had to film by themselves). The improved results are easy to perceive.
It had a high promotion during 1997 and 1998.
The pink car was working, actually.
Aqua, the names of the four members and the title of the song are presented with both western and japanese writings. As a curious note, Lene and René are wrongly written with the same japanese symbols: the katakanas for Re and Ne. The correct japanese spelling of Lene's name would be something like Rina.
The video parodies many elements from the Barbie world: the car, the house, the horse, etc. Lene and René don't look much like Barbie and Ken, but the two friends attending the party do ressemble the doll and its boyfriend.
Lene is reading a fake magazine called My Little Sea Horse where you can see a picture of René (from the Aquarium booklet).
The Aqua logo appears in several places during the video: in the dog's plate, in Lene's magazine, in the bottom of the swimming pool (with a changing position)...
Søren can be seen asleep in the background at the end of the video. (Thanks to Chase for noticing this detail.)
It was the first time that Lene and René ended kissing in a video, a tradition kept in many of the following videos from Aquarium.
It remains as Aqua's most watched video, and it still has thousands of reproductions in YouTube.
The video is featured in Singstar 90s, from the popular karaoke series for PlayStation 2.
